ROCKINGHAM — After a successful homecoming week for Richmond Senior High School’s fall athletic programs, the sixth week of the season begins on Monday.
All six of Richmond’s sports will be in action and include a mix of Sandhills Athletic Conference and non-conference matchups.
Volleyball prepared for another three-match week
The Lady Raider volleyball team (6-6, 3-2 SAC) will play three matches for the second week in a row. Sitting in third place in the SAC standings, Richmond will close out the first round of SAC competition at third-place Scotland High School (5-4, 2-1 SAC) on Tuesday.
A home match on Wednesday will see non-conference Uwharrie Charter Academy (11-2) make the trip to Rockingham. The team’s third match of the week will be at Southern Lee High School (3-7, 0-4 SAC), which is tied for last place in the conference.
All varsity matches will begin at 6 p.m. The junior varsity volleyball team (7-5, 2-3 SAC) will play all three teams and start at 5 p.m.
Soccer geared up for trio of home matches
Splitting its two matches last week, the third-place Raiders (4-3-1, 2-1-1 SAC) will play three more in a span of four nights. Up first will be a home match on Monday against second-place Lee County High School (5-4, 2-1 SAC).
Then the team will take a break from SAC opponents and play two non-conference home matches on consecutive nights. On Wednesday, Montgomery Central High School (5-2) will visit, followed by Sun Valley High School (4-2-1) on Thursday.
The varsity team will begin all three matches at 7 p.m. Richmond’s JV soccer team (4-1-2, 3-0-1 SAC) will also host the trio of schools and start at 5 p.m.
Tennis to continue SAC action
The Richmond girls’ tennis team (2-2, 2-2 SAC) played just one of its two scheduled matches last week. In a season that’s been conflicted with postponements, the Lady Raiders have two more SAC matches this week.
On Tuesday, Richmond will travel to first-place Pinecrest High School. That will be followed by a home match against Hoke County High School on Thursday.
Singles matches are slated for 4 p.m. both days, followed by doubles action.
Golf team to host home match
On Monday, the Richmond girls’ golf team will compete in its second match of the season.
In their lone home match, the Lady Raiders will play nine holes at FoxFire. Golfers will begin teeing off at 3 p.m.
Cross country teams ready for second meet
Both of Richmond’s cross country teams will return to the course on Tuesday for their second 3.2-mile race of the season.
The Raiders and Lady Raiders will run at Lee County High School. With the first race starting at 5 p.m., Pinecrest High School will also compete.
Note: No official results from last week’s meet at Southern Lee have been released at the time of publication.
Football 4A rivalry week ahead with Pinecrest
The first wins of the season for the varsity and junior varsity football teams were notched last week for Richmond to start SAC competition. This week will feature another conference foe in Pinecrest.
A matchup that’s been contested the past few seasons, the Raiders (1-4, 1-0 SAC) will welcome in the Patriots (4-0, 0-0 SAC) at home. Pinecrest is coming off its bye week. Kickoff will begin at 7:30 p.m, on Friday.
The JV Raiders (1-3, 1-0 SAC) will travel to Pinecrest (3-0) on Thursday and play at 6:30 p.m.
