ROCKINGHAM — Spring break has come and gone for local high school student-athletes, and with it, comes another full week of action.

With only the Richmond Senior High School baseball team competing over break, the boys tennis team, the girls soccer and softball teams and the boys and girls track and field teams will return to competition after the hiatus.

Baseball set for three-game week

The Raiders (9-5, 5-2 Sandhills Athletic Conference) will play a two-game series with conference opponent Lee County High School this week.

Richmond will host the Yellow Jackets (11-5, 4-2 SAC) Tuesday and travel to Sanford Friday. Both games will start at 7 p.m.

A special Saturday game will welcome back Raider baseball alumni as Richmond hosts non-conference Mooresville (2-14). The alumni tailgate will start at 11 a.m., followed by first pitch at 2 p.m.

Softball eyes return to win column

The Lady Raiders (4-4, 3-3 SAC) have lost three straight games and will try to end the skid with three games this week.

Richmond will travel to Pinecrest High School (0-9, 0-6 SAC) Tuesday, followed by a home game Friday against Hoke County High School (9-5, 2-4 SAC). Both games are set for 7 p.m.

A weekend game will be played Saturday at home against non-conference Jack Britt High School (1-9). That game will get underway at 5 p.m.

Soccer has trio of conference matches at home

Entering spring break with a non-conference win, the Lady Raiders (5-3-2, 1-2 SAC) will look to keep that momentum going against three SAC teams on their home pitch.

Richmond will open the week with Scotland High School (2-5-1, 0-4 SAC) Tuesday, followed by a make-up game with Union Pines High School  (5-3-1, 2-1 SAC) Wednesday.

The week will conclude with a home match against Southern Lee High School (5-3, 1-2 SAC). The Scotland and Southern Lee matches will start at 6 p.m. and the Union Pines match will begin at 7 p.m.

Golf match postponed

The Raider golf team has competed in three nine-hole matches this season and will have to wait to tee off for its first 18-hole match. Monday’s match has been postponed due to the eclipse.

Facing off against the other SAC teams, the Raiders will send six golfers to play at Bayonet at Puppy Creek in Raeford next Monday. Golfers will begin at 2 p.m.
