ROCKINGHAM — Another busy week of Richmond Senior High School winter sports is planned as the holiday break draws nearer.

Richmond’s boys’ and girls’ basketball, bowling and swimming teams, along with the wrestling program, will all be in action this week in a mixture of non-conference and Sandhills Athletic Conference games and matches.

Lady Raider basketball looks to extend winning streak

Winners of their last two games, the Lady Raiders (4-3, 1-0 SAC) will play three games this week. The first contest is at Pinecrest High School (3-3, 0-0 SAC) Tuesday.

That will be followed by a non-conference road game Thursday at South Mecklenburg High School (7-0). The week will conclude with a home conference game against Hoke County High School (1-6, 0-1 SAC) Friday. All three games will start at 6 p.m.

The Richmond junior varsity girls’ basketball team (1-2, 0-0 SAC) will play home against Pinecrest Tuesday and at Hoke County Friday. Those games will start at 5 p.m.

Raider hoops eyes return to win column

Trying to end an early slump, the Raiders (1-5, 0-1 SAC) will play the same schedule as the Lady Raiders this week.

Richmond will travel to Pinecrest (3-2, 0-0 SAC) Tuesday, visit South Mecklenburg (3-4) Thursday and return to Raider Gymnasium for their second home game of the season Friday against Hoke County (4-3, 1-0 SAC). All start times are set for 7:30 p.m.

The JV Raiders (1-3, 0-1 SAC) will host Pinecrest Tuesday and travel to Hoke County Friday. Tip-off will be at 6:30 p.m.

Wrestling returns to SAC action

The Richmond Raider wrestling program has been busy to start its season and it will have another tri-meet this week.

Richmond (2-4) will return to SAC competition and face Hoke County, Lee County and Pinecrest high schools at Hoke County. The matches will start at 5 p.m.

Bowling, swimming teams to compete in third meet

The Richmond bowling and swimming teams will each compete in their third respective SAC meets of the season this week.

Heading back to St. Andrews University Wednesday, the Raider and Lady Raider swim teams will face the other conference opponents beginning at 6 p.m.

The Raiders had their best finish of the season (third place) last week and the Lady Raiders will try to move up after back-to-back fifth-place finishes.

Off to a strong start, the Raider (2-2) and Lady Raider (4-0) bowling teams will get two more SAC opponents this week at the Sandhills Bowling Center in Aberdeen.

Richmond’s bowlers will face Scotland High School for the first time this winter and begin the second round of conference action with Southern Lee High School. The first games will start at 4 p.m.
