ROCKINGHAM — All but one of Richmond Senior High School’s winter sports programs will be in action this week.
Basketball teams ready to open conference play
After back-to-back weeks with multiple games, the Richmond boys’ and girls’ basketball teams have a lighter schedule in the coming days.
Both squads are set to begin Sandhills Athletic Conference play at Pinecrest High School on Friday.
The Raiders (6-1) are on a four-game winning streak, while the Lady Raiders (1-5) are looking to win their second consecutive game. Last season, Richmond’s teams claimed SAC regular-season titles.
Opening play at Pinecrest will be the boys’ junior varsity team (3-0) at 4:30 p.m., followed by the Lady Raiders (6 p.m.) and Raiders (7:30 p.m.).
Bowling teams set for another SAC doubleheader
Week two of the Richmond bowling season picks up in Laurinburg on Thursday as the Raiders and Lady Raiders will face two more conference opponents.
The girls’ team started the new campaign 2-0 with eight points in the standings, while the boys’ team split its matches last week to begin 1-1 with three points.
Richmond is set to face Hoke County and Union Pines at Laurinburg Lanes, starting at 4 p.m.
Wrestling headed to non-conference North Moore
One match is on the schedule this week for the Richmond wrestling team, which will travel to North Moore High School on Friday for a non-conference match.
Over the weekend, the Raiders competed in a tournament at Pinecrest and competed in five team matches. Richmond faced Apex Friendship, Chapel Hill, Piedmont, Seventy-First and West Carteret.

Track and field teams to run at Pinecrest
Looking to build off of a pair of third-place finishes in their first meet of the season, the Richmond boys’ and girls’ indoor track and field teams will compete in another event on Saturday.
The Raiders and Lady Raiders will run in another Polar Bear invitational, this time at Pinecrest High School.
Swimming season postponed a week
The Richmond boys’ and girls’ swimming teams were scheduled to start their season this week, but due to pool conditions at St. Andrews University, the season opener has been postponed until Wednesday, Dec. 14.
