ROCKINGHAM — All but one of Richmond Senior High School’s winter sports programs will be in action during the coming week.

As the second week of January unfolds, it will be a busy stretch for the Raiders and Lady Raiders mostly against Sandhills Athletic Conference opponents.

Basketball teams set for Union Pines, Lee County

The Richmond boys’ and girls’ basketball teams will both travel to Union Pines Tuesday and host Lee County Friday.

The Lady Raiders (9-4, 3-0 SAC) are tied for first place in the SAC standings with Scotland High School with matching 3-0 records. They’ll face the Lady Vikings (7-6, 1-1 SAC) and the Lady Yellow Jackets (4-5, 1-1 SAC). Those games are slated to start at 6 p.m.

Playing an additional non-conference game Saturday, the Lady Raiders will host Trinity Christian (6-6) at 5:30 p.m.

The Raiders (9-4, 3-0 SAC) stand alone atop the SAC standings and will look to keep their perfect conference record alive. Up first will be the Vikings (9-4, 1-1 SAC) followed by the Yellow Jackets (4-5, 1-1 SAC), both of which are tied for third place. Game times will be 7:30 p.m.

Bowling teams continue second round of regular season

Richmond’s boys’ and girls’ bowling teams will gear up for another SAC dual-match Thursday in Aberdeen at 4 p.m.

Both teams have matching 4-4 overall records and will compete against Pinecrest and Hoke County high schools. The Lady Raiders split two matches last week and the Raiders will try to end a two-match skid.

Wrestling team ready for SAC match

The Richmond wrestling program will head to Union Pines for an SAC dual-match on Wednesday at 6 p.m. It will be the team’s first conference competition since hosting three teams Dec. 6.

Swimming returns for first time in 2024

Making their return this week, the Raider and Lady Raider swimming teams will compete in their fourth SAC meet of the winter.

The Raiders are third in the SAC standings, while the Lady Raiders are fifth. Events will begin at the Leach Aquatic Center in Raeford at 6:15 p.m. Wednesday.

Indoor track and field teams to prepare SAC championship

Richmond’s meet over the weekend was canceled due to wet weather, but now the Raiders and Lady Raiders will continue training for the 2023-24 SAC championship meet.

Getting an extra week to prepare, Richmond will face other SAC teams on Tuesday, Jan. 16, at the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem.
