ROCKINGHAM — Week seven of high school athletics begins Monday, with some Richmond Senior High School’s fall sports teams entering the second cycle of Sandhills Athletic Conference play.

It’s also homecoming week at Richmond Senior. Those involved in Friday’s homecoming festivities are encouraged to keep their calendars open due to impending inclement weather forecasted for Friday.

Lady Raider volleyball looks to keep winning record in SAC play

Last week’s five-set thriller over Scotland and subsequent victory over Southern Lee has pushed Richmond (8-8, 4-3) above .500 in conference play.

With those wins, Richmond has jumped from fifth place to third in the SAC standings.

The Lady Raiders will continue the second cycle of SAC play a pair of conference matches this week. First, they will host conference leader Pinecrest (13-2, 6-0) on Tuesday followed by a trip to Hoke (5-9, 2-5) on Thursday. Junior varsity matches will begin at 5 p.m. with varsity matches following.

Raider soccer set for three matches

The Richmond (3-8-1, 2-3) soccer team will conclude the first round of SAC play on Monday when it hosts rival Scotland (3-5, 0-4) on Monday night. The varsity only match will begin at 6 p.m.

Round two of conference play will begin on Wednesday when the Raiders host Southern Lee (4-5, 1-3), also a varsity-only match beginning at 7 p.m.

With this week’s SAC opponents not fielding JV teams, the junior varsity Raiders (2-4-3) will get a chance to take the field when they host Central Academy (1-10) of Monroe, NC on Wednesday at 5 p.m.

On Thursday, the varsity and junior varsity teams will cap their week with non-conference matches from visiting Northwood (varsity 4-6-1, junior varsity 0-4-1) on Thursday. The junior varsity match will begin at 5:15 p.m. and the varsity will follow.

Lady Raider tennis to face Union Pines

The Richmond girls tennis team will continue SAC play this week. The Lady Raiders (3-5, 3-5) will travel to Union Pines (8-1, 7-1) on Tuesday. The match is scheduled to start at 4 p.m.

Cross country to face Southern Lee, Pinecrest

The Richmond boys’ and girls’ cross country teams will be on the road this week at Southern Lee High School with Pinecrest also competing.

The Lady Raiders have won three straight meets and look to continue the streak at Wednesday’s meet.

The first race is set to begin at 5 p.m., followed by the second start time of 5:30 p.m.

Lady Raider golf to play on Monday

Last week, for the first time this season, sophomore golfer Ella Munn did not have to represent Richmond Senior High School all alone at the SAC match held at Sanford Golf Course. She was joined by fellow sophomore Jacey McRae.

Due to an injury sustained in last week’s cross-country meet, Munn will take this week off and McRae will represent Richmond solo in this season’s first 18-hole match at Bayonet at Puppy Creek in Raeford on Monday. Tee off is set for 2 p.m.

Football teams get ready for homecoming showdowns

After a tough conference road loss to Pinecrest on Friday, Richmond’s varsity football team will return to its home field for the first time in 35 days.

The Raiders (2-4, 1-1) will welcome Hoke County (3-3, 1-1) for this year’s homecoming game on Friday night at 7:30 p.m. Both the Raiders and the Bucks are looking to return to the win column following last week’s losses.

Richmond’s junior varsity team (3-2, 2-0 SAC) remained perfect in SAC play with a 20-14 victory over Pinecrest last week. They will travel to Hoke on Thursday with a 6:30 p.m. start.
