The Week Ahead: Richmond to celebrate homecoming

ROCKINGHAM — Homecoming week has arrived at Richmond Senior High School. 

As students and faculty celebrate spirit week ahead of Friday’s football game, all of Richmond’s fall sports teams will be in action.

Raider soccer continues conference play

Coming off its biggest win of the season, the Richmond boys’ soccer team will get two more chances to climb the Sandhills Athletic Conference standings.

Richmond (3-9-2, 2-3-1 SAC) will host Pinecrest High School (9-2, 5-0 SAC) Monday and travel to Hoke County High School (8-5-2, 2-3-1 SAC) Wednesday. Both matches are at 7 p.m.

The junior varsity boys’ soccer team (7-4-2, 4-0-1 SAC) will also host Pinecrest and play away at Hoke County. Those matches will start at 5 p.m.

Lady Raider volleyball closes regular season

Ending last week on a high note with a comeback win in five sets, the Richmond volleyball team will play its regular-season finale.

The Lady Raiders (7-12, 3-8 SAC) will visit Scotland High School (15-5, 6-4 SAC) Thursday ahead of the conference tournament. First serve is at 6 p.m.

The junior varsity volleyball team (8-10, 5-6 SAC) will finish its season altogether with a final match at Scotland. Action is set for 5 p.m.

Cross country, golf compete in Moore County

The Richmond boys’ and girls’ cross country teams, along with the girls’ golf team, will compete at Pinecrest and Union Pines high schools, respectively, this week.

Cross country will run at Pinecrest Tuesday against the host Patriots and Hoke County. Race times are at 5 p.m. and 5:30 p.m.

The Lady Raider golf team will continue its season at Whispering Pines Golf Club Monday. The 18-hole match against the other SAC programs will tee off at 2 p.m. 

Lady Raider tennis hosts SAC tournament

Becoming the first fall sports program to conclude its regular season last week, the Lady Raider tennis team (4-6, 4-6 SAC) will host the SAC tournament Tuesday.

Seeding will be determined ahead of the 1 p.m. start time on Richmond’s courts.

Football homecoming game features unbeatens

Eyeing its fifth straight win, the Richmond football team (5-2, 3-0 SAC) will try to do so against Union Pines (5-1, 2-0 SAC) Friday.

It’s homecoming for the Raiders, who are looking to hand the Vikings their first conference loss and become the lone remaining unbeaten team in the conference. Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m.

The JV Raiders (5-2, 2-1 SAC) will travel to Union Pines Thursday and start at 6:30 p.m.
