ROCKINGHAM — The third week of October will see many of Richmond Senior High School’s fall athletic programs enter their final stretch of the season.

Volleyball conference tournament starts

On the heels of an exciting senior night win over Scotland High School last Thursday, the Lady Raider volleyball team will look to keep the momentum going in the Sandhills Athletic Conference tournament.

Securing the No. 4 seed, the Lady Raiders (10-10, 7-5 SAC) will host a first-round match on Monday at 6 p.m. against No. 5 Hoke County High School (8-12, 4-8 SAC).

Richmond has defeated the Lady Bucks in both matches this season by scores of 3-0 and 3-2. Should the Lady Raiders win, they would travel to No. 1 Pinecrest in the second round.

Regular-season finale, senior night for soccer

The Richmond boys’ soccer team has three matches scheduled for its final week of play before the start of the SAC tournament.

Starting on the road Monday, the Raiders (8-8-1, 4-5-1 SAC) will travel to non-conference East Mecklenburg High School (8-8-2). That will be followed by senior night at home against Scotland (1-10-1, 0-10 SAC) on Wednesday, which will recognize the team’s nine seniors.

Richmond, which is in fifth place in the SAC, will close out its season at Pinecrest High School (11-4-1, 6-2-1) on Thursday. All three matches will start at 7 p.m.

The junior varsity soccer team (7-4-4, 4-3-2 SAC) will play at East Meck, home against Lumberton (Scotland doesn’t have a JV team) and at Pinecrest the same days. Those matches will begin at 5 p.m.

Final match set at Pinehurst No. 6

After a busy week with two matches in three days last week, the Richmond girls’ golf team will close out its season on Monday.

The Lady Raiders, who sit in fifth place in the SAC standings, will play an 18-hole match at Pinehurst No. 6.

Juniors Ella Munn and Jacey McRae, along with sophomore Emma Humann, will tee off at 2 p.m.

Football, cross country programs get bye week

A much-needed break will be given to Richmond’s boys’ and girls’ cross country teams and the football team this week.

Cross country will prepare for its SAC championship run next Tuesday at Dragon Park in Laurinburg, while the Raider football team (4-5, 4-1 SAC) will get ready for its regular-season finale at Scotland (7-1, 3-1 SAC) on Oct. 27.

The JV Raider football team (2-6, 2-3 SAC) will host Scotland at 6:30 p.m. on OCt. 26.
