GREENSBORO — A member of the Richmond Senior High School football coaching staff will be a part of an annual statewide all-star game for the second straight year next summer.

Earlier this week, the North Carolina Coaches Association released its coaching rosters for the 2022 East-West All-Star football game, and Richmond head coach Bryan Till was named as one of the East’s assistants.

Also unveiled were the coaching staffs for the boys’ and girls’ basketball and soccer All-Star games, which will all be played on consecutive days between July 11, 12 and 13, 2022.

Till, who is entering his fifth season at the helm of the Raiders’ program, will join an East coaching staff that is led by head coach Reggie Lucas of Wake Forest High School.

In order to be named a head coach, a coach must have served as an assistant during a previous East-West All-Star Game. Lucas was on the East’s staff in 2017.

“Obviously I’m humbled to be recognized like this,” Till said of his selection. “I’ve coached with and against these guys, and they’re all quality coaches. It means a lot to me.”

Also on the East’s coaching staff in 2022 as assistants will be Brad Batchelor (Southern Nash), Chris Hall (Cape Fear), Luke Little (Laney) and Andrew Tew (South Central).

In order to be named to the coaching staff, Till said he first had to be nominated by a coach on the NCCA’s Board of Directors.

During his four seasons with Richmond, Till has led the Raiders to a 35-9 overall record and three consecutive outright Sandhills Athletic Conference championships.

His tenure has also seen Richmond make the playoffs all four years, including a third-round trip in 2018, followed by an appearance in the 2019 4AA Western Regional Championship.

The East-West All-Star Game, which showcases recent high school graduates and is played in Greensboro, began in 1949. Since that time a handful of other Richmond coaches have served on the coaching staff.

Bill Eustler was named twice, first in 1951, and again in 1954, and was joined by fellow Raider coach J.V. Pruitt during the latter game. Ron Krall was a part of the 1977 summer classic, and was followed by Paul Hoggard in 2011.

Current wide receivers coach Greg Williams was selected in 2020, but due to the game being canceled because of the pandemic, he coached in the 2021 East-West game, which was played last week.

A total 86 players have represented Richmond during the East-West showdown, most recently being 2021 graduates Kaleel Brown and Tremel Jones.

Other players selected during Till’s time at Richmond include Chase Coulthard (2018), Dereck Barringer (2020) and Jaheim Covington (2020).

“It’s really an honor for our community and our program, and the big thing for me is that it speaks to the traditions and success of the program,” Till explained.

“It will be a lot of work and a lot of fun, and I’m looking forward to being a part of the experience.”

Players for the game have not been selected yet.

The West team will be led by head coach Darryl Brown (Grimsley), and assisted by Tiesuan Brown (Mount Tabor), Randall Gusler (Statesville), Brian Hampton (Ashe County), Al Hendricks (Reidsville) and Joe Nixon (Mooresville).

The 2022 East-West All-Star will be played at Robert B. Jamieson Stadium in Greensboro on Wed. July 13. Moved up a week earlier than normal, kickoff will get underway at 8 p.m.
