ROCKINGHAM — Three goal scorers found the back of the net for the Richmond Senior High School girls’ soccer team on Monday.

Returning to the win column after a tough double-overtime loss last Friday, the Lady Raiders shut out non-conference Montgomery Central High School 3-0.

Using a fast start, the Lady Raiders scored two goals in the first half before adding another in the second half.

Applying a lot of offensive pressure against the Lady Timberwolves (1-2-1), Richmond fired off 15 shots in the win.

Seniors Ellie Buck and Destiny Barrick led the team with three shots apiece, and junior Kalei Sriratankoul and freshman Jamyia Lindsey both registered two.

Buck scored the eventual game-winning goal in the 7th minute, her first tally of the spring. On an offensive rush, Buck took a touch around a defender and chipped the ball up and over goalkeeper Jamira Jackson.

The shot came from 10 yards out and sailed just under the crossbar to give the Lady Raiders a 1-0 lead.

Also scoring in the first half was junior Cheyenne Jacobs, who took advantage of a run up the middle of the field. Sophomore Jenna Gardner started the attack and found Jacobs along the right side of the 18-yard box.

Using her speed, Jacobs raced deep into the box and sent a tight-angled shot from 10 yards high and to the far post past Jackson. Jacobs’ team-leading fifth goal of the season put the Lady Raiders up 2-0 in the 22nd minute.

The Lady Raider defensive line also held the Lady Timberwolves out of the offensive zone for most of the game. Head coach Chris Larsen used a rotation of defenders which held Montgomery Central to just two shots on goal against freshman goalkeeper Quanna Bostic.

The shutout was the Lady Raiders’ second of the season and second in the last three games.

Adding an insurance goal in the 70th minute was junior Sheccid Heaton.

Beating a defender one-on-one inside the left part of the box, Heaton got the keeper off her line and sent a bouncing shot into a wide-open net from 15 yards. It was her first goal of the season.

The Lady Raiders (5-6, 1-3 SAC) will return to Sandhills Athletic Conference action on Tuesday at 6 p.m. against visiting Lee County High School (5-3, 1-2 SAC).
