TROY — The Richmond Senior High School wrestling team entered Thursday’s non-conference meet with a perfect record.
Despite strong performances from several wrestlers, the Raiders suffered their first two team losses of the season.
Richmond traveled to Montgomery Central High School and wrestled the host Timberwolves along with visiting North Davidson High School.
The Raiders came up short 58-17 to Montgomery Central and lost 48-36 to the Black Knights.
Head coach Andre Ellerbe noted that the Raiders faced “two tough teams” and that Richmond had to battle “too many injuries.”
A trio of wrestlers went undefeated for Richmond on the night — senior K’Mauri Morgan (215 pounds), junior Jordan Hamilton (190-pounds) and sophomore Hayden Smith (144 pounds).
Against Montgomery Central, Morgan, Hamilton and Smith collected all 17 points for the Raiders.
Hamilton and Smith won via pinfall, defeating Jeremiah Cassidy and Brandon Reza, respectively, for six points each. Morgan added five points with a technical fall victory over Austin Hernandez by a final score of 19-2.
The Timberwolves had six pins, two forfeit victories and two tech falls to collect their points.
A closer match with North Davidson resulted in six Raiders earning a win. Joining Morgan, Hamilton and Smith were junior Braxton Martinez (175-pounds), sophomore Jeremiah Covington (285-pounds) and freshman Dylan Nunez (120-pounds).
Hamilton capped his 12-point meet with another pin, this time holding Jared Barker to the mat. Smith also had his second pinfall, defeating Julian McLeod for six more points.
Morgan duplicated his first victory with another technical fall, outlasting Zack Knott all three rounds for a 21-6 win.
Martinez, Covington and Nunez each won with the pinning of their opponent. They defeated Thomas Davis, Hezekiah Jennings and Aiden Shore, respectively.
Richmond (2-2) competes in the Cat Fight Duals at Anson High School Saturday. The Richmond Observer will publish results when they’re made available.
