SANFORD — The Richmond Senior High School boys’ junior varsity basketball team saw its five-game winning streak come to an end Friday.

Head coach Travis Byers pointed to “too many turnovers” and a “slow second half” as part of a 46-33 loss on the road at Southern Lee High School.

A close first half put the Raiders down 26-22 at the break, but Richmond scored just 11 points in the final two quarters.

Freshman Chance Crowder was Richmond’s leading scorer with 13 points. Other JV Raiders to score were Yusaun Harrison (8 points), Josiah Brewington (6 points), BJ Hinson (5 points) and Andrae Streeter (1 point).

The JV Raiders took a 14-9 lead after the first quarter. Brewington had all of his points on a triple and three foul shots, and Crowder made a trio of field goals for his first six points.

Harrison, who scored two points in each quarter, added a bucket to give Richmond a five-point lead.

The JV Cavaliers swung the momentum with a 17-8 run in the second quarter. Accounting for Richmond’s points were Hinson (three-pointer), Crowder and Harrison (one field goal each) and Streeter (free throw).

A low-scoring third quarter by both teams saw Southern Lee build its lead to 34-27 by the end of the stanza. A triple from Crowder and another bucket from Harrison kept the JV Raiders within seven points.

Southern Lee outscored the JV Raiders 12-6 in the final eight minutes to secure the victory. Two free throws from Hinson, and one field goal apiece from Crowder and Harrison, finished out Richmond’s scoring.

The JV Raiders (6-4, 4-3 SAC) will host Pinecrest High School Tuesday at 6 p.m.
