ROCKINGHAM — Senior football player Tyson Holloway has been named the Official Richmond County Male Athlete of the Week, presented by HWY 55.

A dominant force on the offensive line, Holloway has been a staple for the Raiders’ front five for the last three seasons. His pocket protection on Friday paved the way for Richmond to earn a close conference road victory.

As the Raiders continue their march toward the postseason, this is Holloway’s first career recognition.

“IN THE TRENCHES” WITH TYSON HOLLOWAY

The offensive line is often the unsung hero to any successful offensive performance on Friday nights, and Holloway and the other offensive lineman helped create five scores in a 35-33 victory over Lee County.

As the team’s right tackle, Holloway is often seen bulldozing opposing defenders out of the way, clearing paths for ball carriers and receivers in open space all the way to the whistle.

In a 28-point first half against the Yellow Jackets, the Raiders scored twice on the ground and twice through the air. Holloway’s No. 75 jersey was a common sight on those touchdown plays, and helped Richmond register 339 yards of total offense.

The Raiders added one more score in the second half and maintained its lead. In the final 4:20, Holloway’s physical blocking helped guide the Raiders to a couple of first down plays to run out the clock and secure the win.

Not only a physical presence, Holloway has also served as a vocal leader on the field for the Raiders this fall.

Richmond (5-4, 4-1 SAC) has a bye this week and will close the season against rival Scotland on Friday, Oct. 28, at 7:30 p.m. Holloway and over 20 of his fellow teammates will be recognized on senior night.
