ROCKINGHAM — Gracie Allen, a senior on the Richmond Senior High School cheerleading team, has been named the ROSports Official Richmond County Female Athlete of the Week presented by Moss Brothers Tires & Service.

A two-year varsity cheerleader, Allen has cheered on the Raider football and basketball teams, along with the girls’ basketball program, since her junior year. Over that time, she’s cheered in dozens of events and emerged as one of the team’s most vocal leaders on and off the mat.

As her final season of high school cheer winds down, this is Allen’s first career recognition.

“CHEERING ON THE RAIDERS” WITH GRACIE ALLEN

The Richmond cheerleading team traveled to Apex Friendship High School on Saturday to compete in the 2020 North Carolina Cheerleading Coaches Association state championship. The Lady Raiders competed in the Division I medium varsity grouping, and would finish in the top four during the event.

Despite not seeing her team bring home any hardware, Allen said she was “proud” of how she and her teammates performed. Throughout the last two years, Allen has served as a back spot and base during stunts, and she was a flyer during Saturday’s competition.

The Richmond boys’ and girls’ basketball teams are down to their final four conference games before the postseason starts. With just a handful of guaranteed games left, Allen hopes to make the best of the time she has left as a cheerleader.

After high school, she plans on attending Western Carolina University to pursue a career in athletic training. She added that there’s the potential that she tries out for the WCU cheer squad.
