LAURINBURG — The record book keeps getting rewritten by the Richmond Senior High School boys’ basketball team.

Continuing an exciting stretch of hoops the past two weeks, senior shooting guard Jamarion Wall set the school’s single-game record for the most made three-pointers Tuesday.

Using 11 triples from Wall, who finished with a career-high 39 points, the Raiders swept by Scotland High School 84-51 to close out the first round of Sandhills Athletic Conference play.

Wall, who shot 11-for-20 from three-point land (55%), surpassed the previous record held by former player Jullien Cole (10). Last week, teammate Paul McNeil Jr. netted 10 three-pointers in his historic 71-point performance.

In the final minutes of the fourth quarter, Wall took a pass from McNeil Jr. and pulled up from the left wing. His shot went into the hoop despite being fouled, setting the new record.

Swarmed by his teammates, Wall got to cherish the record-setting moment when head coach Donald Pettigrew called a timeout.

Wall finished 14-of-21 from the floor and made his final six three-pointers in the fourth quarter. As a team, the Raiders made 17 three-pointers.

Adding to the win was McNeil Jr. (14 points), senior Javian Drake (9 points), juniors Keyonta Davis, Ahaiver McDonald and sophomore Jayden Hamilton (all with 6 points) and senior Braylon Barfield and sophomore Amer Morrison (2 points each).

After both teams battled out to a 5-5 tie in the first quarter, Richmond used a 12-3 run to go ahead for good.

McNeil Jr., who had three triples, scored his first seven points in the first quarter. Hamilton scored all six of his points in the early going, knocking down a pair of three-balls from the left wing.

Wall made his first three-pointer as Davis, McDonald and Morrison each scored a basket to lead 22-13 after the first.

Drake, McNeil Jr. and Wall accounted for all of Richmond’s scoring in the latter part of the first half. The trio of seniors combined for 21 points to open the Raiders’ lead to 43-28 at the break.

Wall’s 11 points led the way, knocking down three more shots from beyond the arc to go along with a field goal. Drake got on the board with three field goals and McNeil Jr. added four points on a triple and a free throw.

Building its lead to as many as 22 points in the third quarter, Richmond used six different players to go ahead 62-41.

Wall’s five points on a triple and a basket were a team-high in the third. Davis capped his scoring with a jumper and two free throws and McNeil Jr. ended his night with one more three-pointer.

Drake also rattled home a shot from downtown for his final points of the win. McDonald and Barfield each netted a basket in the third.

A selfless offense fed Wall the basketball consistently in the final eight minutes, which allowed him to make program history.

He scored 20 points in the fourth, 18 points courtesy of six three-balls. The Raiders’ other two points came from McDonald.

Top scorers for the Fighting Scots (7-10, 3-3 SAC) in the loss were Shyland Harrell (18 points) and former Raider Dylan Lampley (10 points), who recently recorded his 1,000th career point.

On the road again Friday, the first-place Raiders (13-5, 6-0 SAC) will begin their second round of conference play at second-place Southern Lee High School (16-1, 5-1 SAC). Tip-off is slated for 7:30 p.m.
