Wednesday’s RSHS athletic events postponed by rain

ROCKINGHAM — Wet weather impacted Richmond Senior High School athletics for the second straight day on Wednesday.

Following Tuesday’s downpour that saw the varsity baseball and softball games postponed midway through the early innings, Wednesday’s forecast saw more events pushed to a later date.

Head baseball coach Rob Ransom confirmed that the Raiders’ road game at non-conference Jack Britt High School was postponed. Richmond was scheduled to play a junior varsity and varsity doubleheader against the Buccaneers.

At the time of publication, Ransom said there has been no official make-up date announced.

The Richmond boys’ and girls’ track and field teams were also supposed to open their season on Wednesday with a Sandhills Athletic Conference meet at Union Pines High School.

Head coach Reggie Miller confirmed that the meet was canceled and will not be made up.

The track and field teams are now slated to open their season at the Alton Tyre Invitational, which will be held at Southeast Guilford High School on Saturday.

Thursday’s busy night around campus, which features three varsity events, may also be impacted by rain. The National Weather Service is reporting a 50% chance of rain, mainly after 4 p.m.

The baseball team (3-0) is set to resume its rain-out with Southern Lee High School, softball (1-0) will welcome in Montgomery Central High School for a non-conference game and the Lady Raider soccer team (2-2) is scheduled to hold its home opener.

On the road, the boys’ tennis team (1-2) is scheduled to play at Union Pines on Thursday. The junior varsity girls’ soccer team (1-0) will also play at home against Terry Sanford prior to the varsity game.
