ROCKINGHAM — The Raider baseball team is in an 0-2 count in regards to trying to play its latest regular-season games.

Wet weather Friday afternoon canceled the team’s non-conference meeting with South Mecklenburg High School.

Heavy rains over the weekend also postponed the Raiders’ make-up game with Union Pines High School, which was supposed to be made up Monday.

Head coach Eric Brown posted on the Raider baseball team’s social media accounts, “Too much rain this weekend for Raider Field to handle.”

Monday’s make-up game was the second attempt to host the Vikings (10-9, 4-5 SAC), which saw the original game from March 29 also rained out.

With the shifting of games, Richmond (10-8, 6-3 SAC) will close its regular season with three Sandhills Athletic Conference games in four days.

The Raiders, who sit in third place in the SAC standings, will play a two-game series with 3A SAC rival Scotland High School Tuesday and Thursday.

Richmond will travel to Laurinburg Tuesday and host the Fighting Scots (8-8, 5-5 SAC) Thursday for senior night. This year’s seniors are James Eason, Isaac Hinshaw, Cain Hunsucker, Marquan Martin and Zane Searcy.

Friday, a built-in make-up day by the conference, will be one of the last chances for the Raiders to host the Vikings.

All three conference games are slated to begin at 7 p.m.
