ROCKINGHAM - Richmond County women came together for a purpose at Rockingham’s Hitchcock Creek Park on Saturday, June 2nd. 

The “objective” was twofold:  to raise general awareness of the Habitat for Humanity Women Build Project and to specifically generate supplemental funding to help with such.

As part of the activities, a yoga class for adults was conducted on the shaded grassy banks of the creek with a subsequent session then held just for the children.

ROCKINGHAM - The Rockingham Police Department reports that 26 separate charges have been filed against a single individual.  Levar Thaddeus Mitchell, 36, of Rockingham was arrested within a few hours of RPD receiving a report of a breaking and entering incident.

ROCKINGHAM - Ms. Donna Wright, Director of Emergency Services for Richmond County, gave a hardy welcome to each person attending the Wednesday morning dedication of Richmond County's new Emergency Services Complex.  Well-wishers and dignitaries from all over the state and county, with many types of occupation backgrounds, attended the dedication of the new complex.

Hamlet, N.C. (June 6, 2018) – Richmond Community College’s Board of Trustees approved emeritus status to two retired faculty members, two retired staff members and one staff member who will be retiring at the end of this month.

Vehicle Fire on School Street

EAST ROCKINGHAM - Thursday afternoon around 8:15 p.m. East Rockingham Fire Department was dispatched to a vehicle fire on School Street on Aleo Mill Village.

The vehicle was being worked on by the owner when the fire occurred.

The vehicle was a white Nissan pickup.

The fire was quickly extinguished by the fire department before any damage to surrounding structures and vehicles on the property.

Hamlet, N.C. (June 5, 2018) – Team “Lucid” was the first-place winner in Richmond Community College’s Rocket League Gaming Tournament held Saturday at the Cole Auditorium. Coming in second place was team “DM.” 

RICHMOND COUNTY - It was standing room only at the Richmond County Board of Education meeting in Hamlet on Monday, June 4, as high school students spoke to the board, faculty and staff received awards, and students received recognition for excellence in achievement. Following the Call to Order by Board Chairman Wiley Mabe, Jerry Etheridge read the invocation, sharing scripture from the 23rd Psalm, “The Lord is My Shepherd.” Richmond Raider student Justyce Stevenson led the group in reciting The Pledge of Allegiance.

HAMLET - Richmond Senior High School’s AP Art students submitted their work to the College Board in May.

The AP Art students’ portfolios were graded on a 1-6 level with 6 being a noteworthy - and rare – score. 

Students in the Advanced Placement Art Class (AP Art) had to develop a concentration idea for their work, creating twelve works of art that show a variety of their skills and another twelve focusing on a certain topic of their choosing.

ROCKINGHAM- The Richmond County Board of Commissioners held their regular monthly meeting Tuesday, June 5 at the Judicial Center in Rockingham. 

The June agenda was a busy one with 20 items to cover.  The most significant item of the evening was the final approval of the county’s 2018/2019 budget.
