Tuesday Night Storms Cause Vehicle Accidents, More Damage

CORDOVA — On Tuesday evening an unexpected hailstorm made its way through Cordova.

 

The National Weather Service issued a Flashflood Warning for Richmond County around 7:30p.m. This was followed by heavy rain and a hailstorm in the Cordova area that lasted for only a matter of minutes; however, the damage left in its wake has residents questioning if the storm was something more.

HAMLET – Ten graduates of the Practical Nursing program at Richmond Community College exited the Cole Auditorium on July 18 with lighted lamps in a symbolic gesture of beginning a journey into a noble profession.

Community Home Care & Hospice Hosts Awareness Day

ROCKINGHAM – Community Home Care and Hospice, which is a part of North Carolina’s largest hospice provider, is hitting the streets to educate and inform local families about the benefits of hospice and in-home care. And what better way than to offer a free lunch?

CORDOVA - Tuesday night's thunderstorms proved to be more severe than originally expected, leaving trees down and powerless homes in its wake.

At 7:30 p.m., an emergency flash flood warning was issued for the area. A hailstorm lasted for only a few minutes in the Cordova area, but some were unable to reach their homes due to fallen trees, and many residents had no power for a brief time period in the subsequent evening hours.

ROCKINGHAM— The Children of Freedom Baptist Church and Freedom EDGE have a challenge for Richmond County as they continue to try to spread “Buckets of Love”.

HAMLET – Richmond Community College will hold a mandatory orientation for its fall truck driver training course at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 10, in room 130 of the Lindsey-Petris Building on the college’s main campus in Hamlet. This orientation session is the first step for people who want to get into the training class and begin a career in the trucking industry.

ROCKINGHAM—The City of Rockingham and the Rockingham Police Department will be teaming up to host the annual "National Night Out" event.

Millions from around the country take part in "National Night Out", the annual community-building campaign that is geared towards building police and community partnerships in an effort to provide a safer community. In years past, this event has also proven to be a great opportunity to bring the local police department and neighbors together.

Hamlet – One of Richmond Community College’s many exceptional graduates will be honored with the Outstanding Alumni Award at the College’s Convocation this fall.

Rockingham Police Assist in Cheraw Investigation

ROCKINGHAM — Last week, Rockingham Detectives assisted the Cheraw Police Department in conjunction with South Carolina Law Enforcement Division in the apprehension of two fugitives.

Deandre Malskie Byrd, 18, and Shareef Ali Kelly, 21, were both involved in a shooting that occurred in Cheraw, S.C. on Independence Day.

 

Byrd later turned himself into the Rockingham Police Department and Kelly was apprehended at a residence located in East Rockingham.
