ROCKINGHAM—The City of Rockingham and the Rockingham Police Department will be teaming up to host the annual "National Night Out" event.

Millions from around the country take part in "National Night Out", the annual community-building campaign that is geared towards building police and community partnerships in an effort to provide a safer community. In years past, this event has also proven to be a great opportunity to bring the local police department and neighbors together.

Hamlet – One of Richmond Community College’s many exceptional graduates will be honored with the Outstanding Alumni Award at the College’s Convocation this fall.

Rockingham Police Assist in Cheraw Investigation

ROCKINGHAM — Last week, Rockingham Detectives assisted the Cheraw Police Department in conjunction with South Carolina Law Enforcement Division in the apprehension of two fugitives.

Deandre Malskie Byrd, 18, and Shareef Ali Kelly, 21, were both involved in a shooting that occurred in Cheraw, S.C. on Independence Day.

 

Byrd later turned himself into the Rockingham Police Department and Kelly was apprehended at a residence located in East Rockingham. 

Hamlet – Anthony Fuller decided to open Premier Auto Imports in downtown Hamlet after doing some research about the need for a foreign car dealer in Richmond County. Being new to the area, he worked with Richmond Community College’s Small Business Center to become more familiar with the surrounding community and to develop a plan for his business.

PINEHURST – Certain medications, anxiety and “fear of the unknown” are known to contribute to the insomnia that cancer patients experience.

Less known are ways of dealing with this cancer-related sleeplessness.

ROCKINGHAM – When it came to trying to develop something new and exciting to do in Richmond County, Chris and Deana Singletary kicked around a couple ideas. But they ultimately settled on starting the Richmond Adult Soccer League (RASL), a recreational sports league for adults that has rapidly grown into a widely-participated in program.

DOBBINS HEIGHTS — This past Thursday, the town council meeting of Dobbin Heights was called to order at 7:00pm.

ROCKINGHAM -- On Friday, July 14, East Rockingham & Cordova Fire Rescue were both dispatched to a wreck involving a pickup truck and a tractor-trailer at the entrance of a local truck stop. First Health EMS transported the driver of the pickup to the hospital with minor injuries and there were no injuries to the truck driver. The tractor-trailer had a load of bricks that had been picked up in Wallace, South Carolina, and was en route to Canada. The North Carolina Highway Patrol will be investigating the accident.

WASHINGTON – Friday morning, the U.S. House of Representatives unanimously approved Congressman Robert Pittenger’s amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act (H.R. 2810) to crack down on international businesses that support North Korean cyberattacks.

ROCKINGHAM -- On Friday, the Richmond County Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting ceremony and grand re-opening for Badcock & More Home Furniture. The Chamber of Commerce, store associates, and owners Larry and Nancy Woodall were some of those in attendance. Rockingham Mayor Steve Morris said a few words, providing his wisdom and support for the new owners.
