Local Pastor and Teacher Accepted to Yale

HAMLET -- Charlie Heeley, a native of Rockingham, is stepping out on faith and leaving his cherished home state of North Carolina for the New England state of Connecticut to attend the prestigious Yale Divinity School in the fall. While Heeley refers to his acceptance to Yale as an “accident”, God makes no mistakes and it seems that all of his steps in his journey have been ordered and timed perfectly.

New "Summit Church" Coming to Richmond County

ROCKINGHAM— If you have recently noticed a few extra cars at the Hanes Bali L’eggs Outlet on Broad Avenue and wondered what was going on, wonder no longer because the upcoming Summit Church is here and ready to grow.

ROCKINGHAM—  The Rockingham Police and Fire Department partnered this week to provide a better understanding of law enforcement and fire safety to 61 young cadets.

Children from 11 to 17-years-old attended classes throughout the week, where they learned the importance of traffic laws, fire department operations, and even crime scene investigations.


HAMLET — The Summer Reading Program sponsored by the Richmond County Public libraries is giving children the opportunity to soar through the gift of books and presentations, along with ideas to build a better world.

By now most of us here in Richmond County have heard about Pastor James Brigman who lives in Rockingham and is walking to Washington, D.C. to raise awareness. The Brigman’s daughter, Lauren Faith is 9-years-old but at birth, only weighed a little over a pound. This required her to have constant care and left her in a fragile state for the rest of her life.

ROCKINGHAM — In a day and age when our society is extremely health conscious and centered on personal wellness, the focus of children's wellbeing may be the most important. And for Richmond County native Allen Adeimy, it all starts with introducing youngsters to a healthy lifestyle.

HAMLET -- The Hamlet City Council held its July meeting Tuesday night at council chambers located at 201 Main Street in Hamlet.

In the first city council meeting since the cancellation of the Fourth of July events, constituents and city employees filled the chambers to hear a variety of reports of the city's well-being. In an atmosphere that can be defined as "calm, cool and collected," the council was readily prepared to discuss last week's holiday events.

Under the direction of Debbie Holloway, First Baptist Church is one of many sites that houses the youth participants from congregations of various North Carolina baptist churches for the Deep Impact Mission camp.
