Richmond County deputies charge woman with possession of meth, heroin, other drugs

ROCKINGHAM — A woman listed as a probation absconder nearly a year ago is now facing a multitude of drug charges.

According to Sheriff Mark Gulledge, deputies responded to a call around 4:25 p.m. April 28 of a woman asleep in a car on Gardenia Street in the Jefferson Park neighborhood.

The first deputy to arrive reportedly found 25-year-old Jada Cheyenne Rees in the driver’s seat of the vehicle with the door open and went to check on her condition.

After running her information through the system, the deputy found out that Rees had outstanding warrants for a probation violation and an order for arrest out of Montgomery County for failing to appear in court on a misdemeanor, according to the sheriff.

When the deputy asked Rees to step out of the vehicle, he reportedly saw a baggie of suspected methamphetamine in the floorboard.

Other deputies arrived and searched the vehicle, reportedly finding and seizing: 16 grams of meth; 2.2 grams of heroin; 47 dosage units of Suboxone; one gram of Subutex; and one dosage unit of amphetamine salt.

Rees was arrested and served with the aforementioned warrants. She was also charged with: possession of methamphetamine; possession with intent to manufacture, sell or deliver a Schedule II controlled substance; possession of heroin; possession with intent to manufacture, sell or deliver a Schedule I controlled substance; possession with intent to manufacture, sell or deliver a Schedule III controlled substance; simple possession of a Schedule III controlled substance; simple possession of a Schedule IV controlled substance; and possession of drug paraphernalia.

(Note: The press release states that she was also charged with a count of simple possession of a Schedule II controlled substance, but Richmond County Jail records show it as a second count of simple possession of a Schedule III controlled substance.)

Jail records show Rees was also charged with a misdemeanor count of resisting a public officer.

Rees is being held on a combined $67,600 secured bond.

She is scheduled to appear in court May 5 on the drug charges, May 9 on the probation violation, May 13 on the failure to appear, and May 26 on the resisting charge.

The N.C. Department of Public Safety Division of Adult Correction listed Rees as a probation absconder in August of 2021. At the time, the probation office said she hadn’t checked in since May — a month after receiving an 18-month suspended sentence for possession with intent to sell a Schedule II controlled substance.

All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
