Hamlet Police charge defendant in another robbery

HAMLET — Police have filed additional charges against a man accused of a robbery earlier this month.

Investigators with the Hamlet Police Department say that through an investigation, they were able to tie 18-year-old Tyquan Lamar Gibson to another case involving a robbery and identity theft.

Gibson was served warrants Saturday charging him with one felony count each of robbery with a dangerous weapon and identity theft, as well as one misdemeanor count each of communicating threats and assault by pointing a gun.

Richmond County Jail records show Gibson was given a $20,000 secured bond on the identity theft charge and a $30,000 secured bond on the robbery related charges.

Gibson has been held on a combined $260,000 secured bond since May 21 following his arrest on charges of robbery with a dangerous weapon, assault by pointing a gun, larceny of a motor vehicle and possession of a stolen firearm.

Online court records show Gibson is facing six pending felony charges from the previous two years: attempted first-degree murder, robbery with a dangerous weapon and discharging a weapon into an occupied property from 2020; and two counts of attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon and common law robbery from 2021.

Gibson is scheduled to appear in district court June 9 on the latest charges.

Records with the N.C. Department of Public Safety Division of Adult Correction show Gibson has no previous convictions as an adult.

All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
