Ash appointed by governor to state Respiratory Care Board

ROCKINGHAM — Another Richmond County resident was recently appointed to a state board by Gov. Roy Cooper.

Madie Ash, of Rockingham, a sociology instructor at Sandhills Community College, has been appointed as a public member at-large to the N.C. Respiratory Care Board.

In addition to her teaching duties, Ash is the owner and operator of Touché Incorporated of North Carolina and the co-founder of Church of Freedom Ministries, according to a press release from the governor’s office.

According to statute, the board’s main function is to “determine the qualifications and fitness of applicants for licensure, renewal of licensure, and reciprocal licensure” of respiratory care professionals.

The board consists of:

  • Two members who are respiratory care practitioners.
  • Four members who are physicians licensed to practice in North Carolina, and whose primary practice is Pulmonology, Anesthesiology, Critical Care Medicine, or whose specialty is Cardiothoracic Disorders.
  • One member representing the North Carolina Hospital Association.
  • One member representing the North Carolina Association of Medical Equipment Services.
  • Two members representing the public at large.

Cooper announced a host of appointments to various boards on Wednesday.

Cooper has made at least a dozen appointments involving individuals from Richmond County since taking office. They include:

  • Sheriff James Clemmons - N.C. Juvenile Justice Planning Committee
  • Monty Crump - N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission(now serves as vice chair)
  • Gene McLaurin - Economic Development Partnership of N.C. ( now serves as vice chair)
  • William R. “Bill” Webb - Rural Infrastructure Authority of N.C. Commerce
  • Dr. John Stevenson and Melanie Carroll - Richmond Community College Board of Trustees
  • Dr. Cindy Goodman - N.C. School of Science and Math Board of Trustees
  • Ken Goodman - N.C. Industrial Commission
  • Steve Futrell and Dawn Layton - Superior Court
  • County Manager Bryan Land - N.C. Forestry Advisory Council
  • Robert Lee Wallace - Richmond Community College Board of Trustees
