Heavy Storm Passes Through Tuesday Night, Leaves Damage and Powerless Homes in Its Wake Joyce Lambeth

CORDOVA - Tuesday night's thunderstorms proved to be more severe than originally expected, leaving trees down and powerless homes in its wake.

At 7:30 p.m., an emergency flash flood warning was issued for the area. A hailstorm lasted for only a few minutes in the Cordova area, but some were unable to reach their homes due to fallen trees, and many residents had no power for a brief time period in the subsequent evening hours.

Elizabeth Webb of Cordova reported hail the size of a dime (shown in the photo below).

Betty McIntyre noted, "I got caught in it, the pin came out of my windshield wipers and they broke."

The previous day (Monday), heavy rain caused a single vehicle wreck on Hwy 74 by-pass. The vehicle occupant told the Highway Patrol that the rain caused her to hydroplane and collide with the median cables. The driver was transported by Richmond First Health EMS to the hospital with minor injuries.
