Richmond County Crime Report: Hamlet Man Busted on Opium Trafficking; RPD Investigating Shooting Death

RICHMOND COUNTY – While many people were extending holiday festivities or trying to enjoy snow day(s), local law enforcement officers have had a busy start to the new year.

ROCKINGHAM/SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT

Rockingham Police Department reported a “domestic-related incident” that occurred on January 4.  Responding to a “shots fired” call, officers discovered Raymond Toussaint Woods shot in the upper body.  Woods was subsequently airlifted to UNC Chapel Hill Memorial Hospital for treatment, but he succumbed from the gunshot wounds the next day (January 5).

RPD is continuing its investigation, and no charges have been filed as of Thursday morning.

 

The Richmond County Sheriff’s Department also released this week that it arrested Thomas Lee Tunstall, Sr., 67, of Dennis Street in Hamlet, on 28 drug-related charges.

Tunstall was arrested on Dec. 22, 2017, after the RCSD’s narcotics unit made controlled purchases of prescription pills (oxycodone and hydrocodone) on several different occasions at his residence by an informant.

He was charged with trafficking opium (four counts), selling a Schedule II substance (six counts), delivering a Schedule II substance (six counts), possession with intent to sell a Schedule II substance (six counts), and six counts of maintaining a dwelling for controlled substances.

Following his arrest, Tunstall was placed in Richmond County Jail on a $500,000 secured bond. His court date is set for January 11.

 

HAMLET CRIME NEWS

Meanwhile, RPD’s counterparts in Hamlet were tending to their own situations, making three separate arrests on Sunday, January 7th.

Tyrek Antwon Ratliff, a 19-year-old male residing at 704 Taylor Place in Hamlet, was arrested for trespassing at the Alco on Hamlet Avenue.  Ratliff had been previously banned from the premises.  Ratliff was transported to the Richmond County Jail and is being held on a $1000 secured bond.

 

Subsequent to a report of a domestic dispute filed at the Hamlet Police Station, Seth Eugene Dawkins, a 31-year-old male residing at 121 Lillian’s Lane in Hamlet, was arrested for possession of a firearm by a felon, assault on a female, and resisting an officer.  Dawkins was transported to the Richmond County Jail and is being held on a $10,000 secured bond.

 

Subsequent to a report of an automobile accident on McDonald Avenue, Hamlet police officers arrived on the scene and noticed the occupant attempting to remove items from the vehicle. 

The occupant ignored the officer’s request to cease and desist such actions and was searched.  Matthew Rollins, a 27-year-old male residing at 311 Myrtle Avenue in Hamlet, was arrested for misdemeanor simple possession of a controlled substance and was released from the Richmond county Jail on a written promise to appear in court.

 

All persons mentioned are innocent until proven guilty in the court of law.
