Breaking and Entering Suspect Sought

The Hamlet Police Department is also currently investigating a reported breaking and entering and larceny from 504 Washington Avenue.  It was reported on Monday, January 8, that the residence had been unlawfully entered and that a water heater (valued at $600) and electric space heater were missing. Anyone with information is encouraged to call HPD at 910-582-2551.

HPD Warns of Social Media Purchases

Subsequent to a recent event in Hamlet, HPD is advising the public to be especially wary of individual purchase arrangements made via social media.

Specifically, a woman from Chesterfield agreed through “Let It Go” to meet an individual at the Hardee’s parking lot in Hamlet for the purpose of selling a ring.  The man with whom she made the arrangement gave her $1700 and then drove away before the woman discovered that the bills were actually no more than worthless “cinematic” money.

Captain Randy Dover advises anyone engaging in such an exchange to “be very careful” before entering into any such agreement and to then examine the merchandise and/or the money before finalizing the transaction.
