HAMLET – The City of Hamlet Public Works Department personnel were able to quickly repair a major water main break Thursday morning in the Pinecroft area.

City Manager Jonathan Blanton reported that the water main on Rosedale Lane between Rice and Hill Streets burst Thursday morning at approximately 6:30 a.m., but was quickly repaired and returned to functionality within two hours.

“The Public Works Department personnel put together a real team effort,” said Blanton.  “We were fortunate to have planned ahead and had the necessary equipment and repair lines available, so the downtime for the water supply was minimized.”

The cost of the repairs was still being calculated at the time of this report, but Blanton indicated that it should be minimal and certainly not of any major consequence.

Inspection of the area revealed that not only had the pipes been professionally restored, but the roadway itself had also been repaired to the point where it was actually difficult to discern exactly where the damage had occurred.

“They (Public Works personnel) really do a great job in that respect,” said Blanton.  “We had previously received some equipment and replacement pipes and that substantially lessened the burden of the repairs.”

An unnamed resident of the area stated that she noticed the lack of any water pressure in her kitchen faucets around 8 a.m., but that it (water flow) was back to normal within the hour.
