ROCKINGHAM – State Senator Tom McInnis (R-Richmond) representing District 25, filed for re-election to the State Senate Monday, citing the need for strong representation in Moore County and its southern, more rural neighbors: Richmond, Scotland and Anson Counties.

McInnis is a Richmond County native who has worked to build relationships across Moore, Anson and Scotland counties through business and social dealings for many years.

In in his first two terms, he became chair to the Senate’s Transportation and Transportation Appropriations committees.

In a statement released by his campaign, McInnis has "helped engineer middle-class tax cuts, pay raises for public school teachers, increased funding for rural schools, regulatory reforms that have unshackled small businesses and job creators as well as legislation to address the devastation caused by our state’s Opioid crisis."

“Serving the area where I was born and raised has been one of the great honors of my life," McInnis said, "and if voters entrust me with another term, I will continue working day and night to make our district a better place by continuing to use common sense and integrity to direct my actions. I’m proud of all the progress we’ve made, but there’s so much more work to be done. I’m eager to hit the campaign trail and spend time across the district meeting new folks and listening to their concerns.”

McInnis will seek his third term running against Democrat Helen Probst Mills of Moore County, who announced her candidacy last week.
