Weekend events abound across Richmond County Visit Richmond County

ROCKINGHAM — Fall is roaring into Richmond County with a host of events slated for this weekend.

Marty Goodman will be signing copies of “Learning By Doing” from 10 a.m.-noon at the Speckled Paw coffee shop in IncSpace, 115 S. Lawrence Street, Rockingham.

In the same building, at the same time, Diane Poland, of Art Wonders Gallery, is hosting another art show. The first was held July 31 in conjunction with another book signing.

Poland opened her gallery in IncSpace last month, where she works on paintings, sculptures and other artistic pieces.  Several of her works are for sale, but some more personal pieces — which represent domestic abuse — are for display only.

Poland said Friday afternoon that three of several interested artists had dropped off their work to be included in the show.

There is no entry fee for artists and the show is open to the public.

Just down the road, on Green Street, Norton Farms will be hosting its Autumn Fest — featuring crafts and other items from local, small businesses — from 10 a.m.-3 p.m.

Venue 89, on Rockingham Road, will be bringing a taste of the Caribbean with its Reggae Vibes Sip and Shop event from 1-6 p.m. The event will feature Caribbean-inspired food, items to buy and a DJ blasting Reggae tunes.

Endurance runners will take over Hinson Lake for the 15th annual 24-Hour Ultra Classic, where participants are challenged to make as many laps as they can around the 1.5032 inner loop from 8 a.m. Saturday to 8 a.m. Sunday.

Richmond County’s bikers will again hit the highway, leaving from the Hide-A-Way Tavern at 2 p.m., in a memorial ride for the family of Chris Blackmon.

Blackmon, owner of Rockingham Towing, passed away earlier this month while in West Virginia.

In addition to those on motorcycles, local towing services, first responders and others are invited to participate. Donations will be collected for Blackmon’s family.

Speaking of motorcycles, Rockingham Dragway will host the ManCup Motorcycle Drag Racing Series, with 72-year-old New Yorker Paul Gast going for his third consecutive win.

Across the road at Rockingham Speedway, MB Drift returns for its Party at Little Rock, with drifters getting in some seat time around the half-mile oval.

Ellerbe First United Methodist Church will also hold a Fun Day from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. with races and games as well as rescue and scent dog demonstrations. Parents can also register their kids up for scouting.
