ROCKINGHAM - It was recently announced that one of Rockingham’s talented young musicians was recognized for his outstanding ability.

John Patrick Hutchinson, Jr.  was awarded 2nd place in his age division at the 2018 Young Musicians Festival held at Weymouth Center for the Arts and Humanities in Southern Pines.

The competition was held over two days (February 17th and 18th) and was open to students in grades 4 through 12 from the counties of Cumberland, Hoke, Lee, Montgomery, Moore, Richmond, and Scotland.

The event was adjudged by accredited professors and musicians from the North Carolina School of the Arts and the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.

It was noted that Hutchinson performed two very difficult selections: The first movement of Sonata in C Major K.545 by W.A. Mozart and “The Entertainer” by S. Joplin.

Hutchinson received a score of “superior” for each of his renditions and has excelled under the direct tutelage of piano instructor John Tyson.

John and Sharon Hutchinson are the proud parents of this musical prodigy.
