HAMLET – Students across the globe work hard to accomplish their college goals. Local scholars at Richmond Community College (RCC) are no different.

A group of these students, proven to be responsible and dependable, act as representatives of their college. Maybe you’ve seen one of these students working at registration, graduation, one of the Dewitt Series shows, or another RCC function. Their goal is to reflect a positive image of Richmond Community College. These students are RichmondCC Ambassadors.

Wylie Bell, Assistant Director of Marketing and Communications at Richmond Community College answers the following questions that explain more about the RichmondCC Ambassadors:

When and how will the 2018-2019 Ambassadors be chosen and what qualities must they exhibit?

Ambassadors must apply for the position and have a faculty member attest to their dependable and responsible qualities to fill this role. Applicants are initially screened to ensure they have at least a 2.5 GPA and earned at least 24 credit hours by the end of the current semester.  Applicants are then interviewed during the month of April. The new group of Ambassadors will be announced by April 26, and their first assignment will be working the Director’s Circle End of the Year Dinner on Thursday, May 4.

Why have Ambassadors? What are their duties?

Ambassadors are respected students acting as representatives of the college. Their role is to reflect a positive image of Richmond Community College at selected on and off campus activities.  These activities include manning booths at recruitment events as well as assisting with campus tours, graduation ceremonies, DeWitt Performing Arts shows, President’s Club events and much more. This is a great opportunity for our students to grow personally and professionally as they prepare for life after college. Each Ambassador receives a scholarship, public recognition, networking opportunities, job-search support and a powerful addition to his or her resume.

Who directs the RichmondCC Ambassadors program?

Don Smeigh, who is an Admissions Counselor, serves as advisor to the Ambassadors.

The Advisor acts as the liaison between the Ambassadors and the College, managing their scheduled duties. Meetings between the Advisor and Ambassadors are scheduled monthly. Agenda items include a review of upcoming events, assigning which Ambassadors will work each event and indicating their responsibilities, discussing the necessary Ambassador attire for each event, and addressing any questions or issues related to recent or upcoming events.
