ROCKINGHAM - Excitement filled the air as Friday was the day that every Richmond Senior High student filed into the gym to see who would win a car.  Jeff Dieffenbach and Dieffenbach Chevrolet/GM Superstore for the 13th year donated a car that a RSHS student would win.

This year the lucky winner was Paola Zenteno. Following the drawing the program moved to the school commons area where a very happy Zenteno was presented with a choice of one of three cars. Having chosen a bright red Chevrolet Spark as her new car, Mr. Dieffenbach gave the deserving student her keys.

Before presentation of the car, recognition and other prizes were awarded.  Ben Morrison was recognized for 13 years of perfect attendance in grades K-12 with a check and a plaque, three students, Derrick Allred, Jimmy Cooley and Yasmine Moody all had their names drawn to win  $100 each. Jada Reeves, Jenna Kubiak, and Monisaaicha Hayes won a free slushy every school day until June 7.  The RSHS teacher of the year, Chad McCurry, was acknowledged and presented with a check.

Zenteno’s and the other winning students’ names were drawn from thousands of entries.  RSHS students have multiple opportunities to qualify for the raffle by earning a grade of an 85 or higher and having no more than one absence.  For every class, the first, second, and third nine weeks a student meets the criteria he/she will have a ticket entered into the drawing.

Mr. Jim Butler, RSHS principal, commented “ I am very appreciative of Jeff Dieffenbach and Dieffenbach Chevrolet for sponsoring this program and supporting our Raiders.  It is one of the best days of the school year.  It is a great incentive for our students to come to school and do their best.  I am happy for Paulo Zenteno.  She is a very deserving student. She is a wonderful Raider. We were all excited for her.“
