Heavy Storms Enter County, Cause Damage at Multiple Sites

RICHMOND COUNTY - On Sunday night, Richmond Emergency Communications (ECom) sent out an alert to all first responders that severe thunderstorms would be entering the county around 9:00 p.m.

Sure enough, around 9:30 p.m. the Rockingham Fire Department was dispatched to a structure collapse where a tree had fallen on a house at 206 South Grove Avenue. 

Everyone was out of the structure at the time the fire department arrived on scene.

At 10:05 p.m., East Rockingham Fire Depart was dispatched to downed trees on both ends of Railroad Street off of Mill Road.

The Rockingham Fire Department was dispatched again to Baldwin Road off of County Home Road at 10:10 p.m.

This call was in reference to an outside fire caused by a lighting strike.

Cordova Fire Rescue was dispatched to a tree across 153 Lake Road around 10:20 p.m.

It was also an electrical hazard.

E Com also had many reports of high winds and heavy rain throughout the county.
