Rockingham, NC. Bryan Land, county manager for Richmond County Government, announced today that, due to Hurricane Florence, a second emergency shelter will be opened in Richmond County.

This shelter is being established at Mineral Springs School, located at 1426 Green Lake Road in Ellerbe and will be open at 10 a.m.

Richmond Senior High School is already serving as a shelter.

Shelters are being set up in coordination with the American Red Cross, Richmond County Department of Social Services, Richmond County Health Department and the Richmond County Schools System and will provide shelter and food for Richmond County citizens who are concerned about staying in their home during the hurricane.

Donna Wright, emergency management coordinator for Richmond County, said all persons coming to the shelter should bring bedding, flashlights, special medicines and foods, including foods and other needs for babies.

If transportation is needed, call the transportation coordinator at telephone number 910-417-4948.

Many disabled and elderly persons who live at home may require assistance in order to relocate to the open shelters.

If you have a mobility issue and have special transportation needs, please contact 910-417-4948 and let them know so your transportation needs are addressed and a social worker will be notified.

For more information about shelters and what to bring call 417-4947.
