HAMLET - For the 37th consecutive year, the Seaboard Festival will be held this Saturday on Main Street in Hamlet, NC from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Planning starts in January of each year by the Seaboard Festival Committee, a group comprised entirely of volunteers, with Chuck Cobb as its chairman for 2018.

Food and craft vendors, information booths, musical entertainers, dancers and craft demonstrators are all on hand for the pleasure of the large crowd that always fills Main Street to capacity on Seaboard Saturdays.

Held rain or shine, there will also be children’s amusements such as a bounce house, inflatable mechanical bull, bungee trampolines, games, face painting and the Little Quakers train ride in the Tornado building parking lot.

The annual 5K road race will start at 8:00 a.m. in front of Calvary Baptist Church on McDonald Avenue.  Online registration will be open until Friday, October 26, at 10:00 a.m.  Packet pick up for runners will be Friday, October 26, 2:00 p.m.– 6:00 p.m. at the Cole Auditorium in the lobby.  Registration will be accepted at packet pick up as well.  The first 300 runners will receive a custom finisher’s medal depicting the Historic Hamlet Depot.  The top three male and female finishers will be recognized, as will age group winners.  Race t-shirts will be given to pre-registered runners if they were signed up by September 30. The antique/classic car show has been an integral part of the festival for many years.  Jackie Hatfield has been the organizer of the car show for quite a few of those years.  Registration takes place on the day of the show on the back porch of the Hamlet Visitor’s Center with the cars parked out on the lawn behind the Hamlet Depot.

The conductor’s call will be held in the afternoon giving adults as well as children the opportunity to call “All Aboard!”  There will be prize money given to winners in each age group.  Sign up the day of the festival to participate in this entertaining event.
