ROCKINGHAM - As the temperatures drop, the days become shorter, and the leaves begin falling from trees, it becomes time to put aside all hope of a second summer and begin focusing upon the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays that will inevitably be here before we know it.

Although this upcoming season is trademarked as the “most wonderful time of the year,” the consequential “to-do” lists that accompany such joyous gatherings can be rather daunting.  There are rooms to be cleaned and meals to be planned, and stacks of dusty boxes of decorations to be pulled out of the attic and their contents prominently put on display.

But as each box of holiday treasures is opened, the endless list of questions begins.  Where do we want to put the tree this year, and what should our theme be?  Where did we put this decoration last year?  How are we going to decorate the mantle?  Can I use this for one more season, or is it time to buy a new one?  Do we need something new to put over in this space?  Do we even have time to put all of this stuff up?  And the list goes on.

Fortunately, the talented team at Hillside florist has been working diligently to prepare for this festive time of year and is ready to help with all of their customers’ holiday decorating needs.

To help kick off the season of giving, Hillside Florist will be hosting a series of after-hours events beginning with their 2nd annual Open House this Thursday, November 1st.

Lasting from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. in their shop at 216 East Franklin Street in Rockingham, this drop-in style event will provide patrons an opportunity to shop their collection of show-stopping wreaths, centerpieces, garlands, and mantle pieces – all of which can be purchased to go that evening, or ordered for pick-up or delivery later this holiday season.

Also on display throughout their showroom floor will be their dazzling collection of custom Christmas trees.  A new addition to this year’s line-up of seasonal products, these artificial trees are each hand decorated by the Hillside staff.  Covered from top to bottom with sweeping ribbons, precisely placed berries, delicate ornaments, and dripping in charm, each tree is as unique as a snowflake and can be purchased entirely as is.

Another new element to this season’s list of services offered by Hillside is custom home decorating.

“Decorating takes a lot of time,” shared Chuck Wright, owner of Hillside Florist.  “Our staff is skilled at decorating everything from front door pieces and entry ways to fireplaces and stairway garlands, as well as large Christmas trees and even entire homes.  With a little imagination and the right florist behind you, we believe that anyone can create a warm and welcoming home for the holiday season.”

But the list of available products showcased Thursday evening won’t end there.  In an effort to become a true one-stop-shopping destination, Hillside will proudly continue their partnership with Willow Tree Antiques and Gifts to offer their customers even more than just floral arrangements and decorations.

Their carefully curated collection of accent pieces, pillows, keepsakes, and custom ornaments celebrating all of life’s special milestones will surely provide something for everyone on those holiday shopping lists.

As an added way to spread even more holiday cheer, with each purchase, patrons will be entered into a raffle drawing to win one of several stunning prizes.

“Everyone is so busy with the hustle and bustle of this season,” explained Wright, “which can sometimes prevent them from decorating their houses for this festive time of year.  Every family who celebrates deserves a house fully decorated with Christmas spirit, and we hope that the services and products we offer here are able to help them in accomplishing that.”

At 7:00 p.m. the open house portion of the night’s festivities will conclude and a delectable VIP experience will begin as Hillside Florist hosts their inaugural “Dessert Downtown” event.

Creatively combining sweet treats and local landmarks, this unique event will leave attendees feeling sweetly satisfied and up to date about all things Richmond County.

At this free, drop-in style event, each attendee will be offered a plate of delectable desserts prepared by the Hamlet-based baker, Elisha’s Edible Addictions.  Packed with symbolism and flavor, each sweet treat will be themed after a local landmark, allowing the Hillside Florist staff to take their guests on an informative culinary journey across the county.

“It’s such a rare occasion that we can treat each other to a fun evening out,” shared Wright.  “While attending several Downtown Development meetings, we decided that we wanted to create a unique event at Hillside to give back to our community and allow local shoppers to have an enjoyable evening out.”

“Our family loves dessert,” Wright added, “and when we were brainstorming ideas of what to do, we kept coming back to the idea of dessert.  So, we found a local baker who creates delicious desserts, and worked with her to create a festive line-up of treats themed after Richmond County landmarks.”

This portion of the night’s festivities will last until 8:30 p.m., is open to adults of all ages, and is RSVP only.  Those interested may reserve their spots at this event by calling Hillside Florist at (910) 997-4028 or emailing them at This email address is being protected from spambots.
