RALEIGH — State Sen. Tom McInnis was recently appointed to several committees, two of which he will serve as co-chairman.

McInnis, R-Richmond, will co-chair both the Senate Transportation and Appropriations on Department of Transportation committees with Sen. Jim Davis, R-Macon.

He will also serve as a member of the following committees for the 2019-2020 legislative session: Agriculture, Environment and Natural Resources; Commerce and Insurance; Education and Higher Education; and State and Local Government.

“I am honored to be chosen to chair transportation for policy and appropriations,” McInnis said in a statement issued Monday. “I am very excited to add education and higher education to my other current committee assignments, I believe that the 2019–2020 session will prove to be the best yet for the citizens of our state.”

The appointments were made last week by President Pro Tem Phil Berger, R-Rockingham.

“Through these Senate committees, capable and experienced legislators of both parties will delve deeply into many issues that matter to North Carolinians — including growing our economy, enhancing public safety and preserving our natural resources,” Berger said in a statement Jan. 10.

McInnis was recently elected to his third term in the state Senate and was sworn in Jan. 9.

He represents the 25th District, which includes his home county of Richmond, as well as Anson, Moore and Scotland counties.

State legislative records show Rep. Ken Goodman, D-Richmond, is not currently assigned to any standing or select committees.

Goodman was also sworn in last week, beginning his sixth term in the N.C. House of Representatives.
