HAMLET— Investigators have spent most of Thursday trying to discover the identity of a suspected car and purse thief.

A male suspect stole a Scion xB from the Speedway gas station just before 7 a.m., according to Detective Capt. Randy Dover.

The suspect then drove to the Circle B convenience store where he was caught on camera parking near the gas pump and exiting the vehicle carrying the victim’s purse and other items.

He then walks over to a waiting light-colored Chevy Tahoe with a piece of equipment on top.

Investigators say a female suspect was inside the SUV and moved to the back before the male suspect got inside and drove away.

Dover posted a photo of the male suspect around 9 a.m. to the Hamlet Police Department’s Facebook page. He later posted the full video.

As of 5 p.m., Dover said officers had not been able to identify the suspect.

Anyone who may know his identity is encouraged to call the department at 910-582-2551, or Richmond County Crime Stoppers at 910-997-5454.
