ROCKINGHAM— Concert promoters have announced the replacement band following the death of group scheduled to perform the first night of Epicenter Festival.

The Crystal Method will fill the spot left vacant after The Prodigy cancelled all shows last week when Keith Flint, dancer and vocalist for the band, was found dead in his home March 4 of an apparent suicide, multiple media outlets reported.

Epicenter was to be The Prodigy’s fifth stop on its 2019 North American Tour — the first with dates in the U.S. in more than a decade, according to Consequence of Sound.

The Crystal Method is an American electronic band, with a style similar to The Prodigy, founded in the early ‘90s by Ken Jordan and Scott Kirkland. Jordan retired in 2017 with Kirkland continuing with the group’s name.

The Facebook post announcing the change in the lineup featured a statement from Kirkland:

“I like so many have been shocked by the sad reality that another iconic and influential member of the music community has taken their own life. I personally want to send my deepest condolences to Keith’s wife and family… and to his band mates. In the dozen or so times TCM shared a stage or played a festival with The Prodigy, I witnessed some phenomenal performances.

“... I never really hung out with Keith and only had the briefest of personal interaction with him but he was always kind and I know he will be missed.”

The band will perform Friday, May 10, the first of the three-day festival at Rockingham Dragway, ahead of Evanescence, Rob Zombie and Korn.

Other headliners for the event, put on by Danny Wimmer Presents, include The Cult, Judas Priest, Tool and Foo Fighters.

The event is expected to draw around 100,000 visitors to Richmond County and is estimated to have a nearly $40 million impact on the regional economy.
