MCBEE, S.C. — Two musicians with Richmond County roots and Nashville notes will be sharing a stage for a free concert next weekend.

Jonathan Robinson and Bucky Covington will be playing the Bary Brown Band and Bad Inc., a Bad Company tribute, at a concert following the Brown’s RV Superstore Poke Run on Saturday, April 13.

Brown, who is currently working on an album, owns the motorhome dealership on S.C. Hwy. 151, just south of his hometown of McBee.

Brown and Covington played a show together at the Hartsville Center Theater in July 2017.

Covington, who claims both Richmond and Scotland counties as home, is a former American Idol contestant and owns his own record label, Barefootin’ Records.

He will also soon be releasing an extended play recording with a single from the soundtrack of “Brother’s Keeper,” a football movie in which he had a role as an assistant football coach.

Robinson, who worked as a sideman in Nashville for several years before moving back to Hamlet, released a four-song EP last year.

“It’s great seeing other people from where you're from have success at something they love,” Robinson said Friday. “I've never done a show with Bucky before, so I'm really looking forward to sharing a stage with him.”

Robinson will be playing a mix of original songs as well as blues-rock covers with bassist Bill Caswell and Sam Wilson of Cameron filling in on drums for John Martin, who has a gig with the Allman Brothers tribute band Idlewild South.

Registration for the poker run is 8-10:45 a.m. with kickstands up at 11 and bikes returning at 3 p.m. The fee is $15 for single riders and $20 for doubles, which also includes a barbecue lunch.

The ride will feature stops at Southern Comfort, J-Michaels in Hartsville, Florence Walmart , Harley Davidson of Florence and Darlington Raceway.

The poker game is $10 per hand with the winner taking home $1,000. There will also be a 50/50 raffle and door prizes.

All proceeds go toward the South Carolina Veterans’ Fund.

The free concert begins at 4 p.m. and is scheduled to run until at least 9:30 p.m.
