ROCKINGHAM — Deputies have charged a man for allegedly stealing $2,200 worth of tools over the weekend.

Warrants show Mackie Barfield Jr., 33, is accused of breaking into a building on Arville Drive on Saturday and taking a variety of tools, including: a Stihl backpack blower; copper wiring; assorted hand tools and socket sets; and multiple impact drills.

He was charged by the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office with one felony count each of breaking and entering and larceny after breaking and entering.

Barfield was arrested Tuesday and booked into the Richmond County Jail, where he remained Thursday evening under a $5,000 secured bond.

He is scheduled to appear in court April 25.

Online court records show Barfield has no other pending charges in the state.

Records with the North Carolina Department of Public Safety Division of Adult Correction show he was convicted of possession stolen goods, a felony, in 2010 and was given probation.

All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
