ROCKINGHAM— Sophomore Jonathan Rich left Richmond Senior High School on Thursday with a new car.

Rich was the winner in the annual car giveaway sponsored by Dieffenbach G.M. Superstore during a special assembly during the fourth block.

Given a choice between two cars, Rich decided to go with a black 2019 Chevy Cruze and was all smiles when he called home to give his grandmother the news.

To qualify for the drawing, a student must make a grade of 85 or higher in their registered class, no more than one absence and have no in-school or out-of-school suspensions in a grading period.

Fellow sophomore Tyler Mabe and junior Travis White each had their names drawn for two $100 prizes.

Others students were recognized at the assembly and awarded prizes:

  • Kailyn Outen was honored with a gift card for her “outstanding work” with the yearbook.
  • Tayevion Harrington was awarded a framed T-shirt and art supplies for designing the Senior Day T-shirt.

Student interns/volunteers Tanya Acosta, Savannah Chappell, Jessica Cordova, Abby Coward, Taveon Ellerbe, Denisha Kelly and Makaylan Nichols were also recognized and RSHS Teacher of the Year Andrea McIver was presented with a floral arrangement and a check.
