ROCKINGHAM — The Wound Care and Hyperbarics program at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital-Richmond has received a national award for continued excellence in wound healing.

The Robert A. Warriner III, M.D., Center of Excellence award goes to wound care centers in the Healogics network that have met the highest level of quality standards for a minimum of two consecutive years. This is the fourth year in a row that the program at MRH-Richmond has received the Center of Excellence award and the fifth year that the program has achieved patient satisfaction rates higher than 92 percent and a healing rate of a least 91 percent in fewer than 30 median days.

Healogics Inc. is the nation’s largest provider of advanced wound care services. Of its nearly 700 wound care centers, 413 were eligible for and 342 received the 2019 Center of Excellence award, which is named for a wound care pioneer and former Healogics chief medical officer.

“It is quite an honor to receive this award,” says David Strom, M.D., an orthopaedic surgeon and medical director of FirstHealth Wound Care and Hyperbarics. “It’s a credit to our experienced team that is committed to providing the highest level of service and care to our patients.  We are very proud to once again be acknowledged for our healing rates and patient satisfaction.”

According to John Jackson, president of FirstHealth’s Southern Region and administrator of MRH–Richmond, FirstHealth Wound Care and Hyperbarics is dedicated to delivering the best possible wound care treatment to its patients.

“The success of that goal is reflected by this award, which confirms the compassionate care that our staff provides to its unique patient population every day,” he says.

FirstHealth Wound Care and Hyperbarics offers specialized wound care to patients suffering from diabetic ulcers, pressure ulcers, infections and other chronic wounds that have not healed in a reasonable amount of time. Treatments include negative pressure wound therapy, debridement, cellular-based tissue or skin substitute application, offloading or total contact casts, and hyperbaric oxygen therapy.
