HAMLET — Police are asking for help identifying a man accused of breaking into several vehicles and stealing one from a local dealership.

The Hamlet Police Department posted surveillance video from Griffin Chrysler Jeep Dodge to its Facebook page Tuesday afternoon in hopes someone might recognize the suspect.

The incident happened around 1:30 a.m. Sunday, according to police

Investigators say additional video shows the suspect first getting into a Nissan Frontier at the lot. Then they say the suspect got out and entered a Nissan Rogue.

He then drove the Rouge across the parking lot, got out and broke into and took items from three vehicles — a Dodge Charger, a Dodge Ram pickup and a Jeep Commander — before leaving the dealership in the stolen SUV, according to investigators.

Anyone with information about the suspect is encouraged to call the Hamlet Police Department at 910-582-2551 or Richmond County Crime Stoppers at 910-997-5454.
