RICHMOND COUNTY -- Earlier this week, several schools across Richmond County had students and faculty meet before classes to recognize the annual event "Prayer at the Pole."

Most gatherings took place at each school's flag pole around 7:30 a.m. At Hamlet Middle School, there were approximately 50 students and staff members that attended. Students at Ellerbe Middle School also joined in the day of recognition.

Sixth grader Toby Lunceford opened the day with a praise and worship song. Sixth grader Emma Altman read a scripture from the Bible, while sixth grader Christi Jacobs concluded the ceremony in prayer.

Hamlet Middle School, like many other schools across the county, has Fellowship of Christian Students every Tuesday after school. Nathan Black, youth pastor at Cartledge Creek Baptist Church of Rockingham, and Drew Stables, youth pastor at Second Baptist Church of Hamlet, organize HMS' after-school club.
