ROCKINGHAM — The National Weather Service has issued a flood advisory for Richmond County.

Just after 7 p.m., radar indicated a thunderstorm moving through Anson County that includes heavy rainfall of up to two inches, according to the NWS.

Towns in Anson County are also included in the advisory

The storm is moving east at 10 mph.

Storms moving through within the past two days have dropped around two inches of rain, according to the NWS.

“Locally heavy rain will quickly reduce visibility and result in ponding of water on roadways, standing water in low lying areas, and minor flooding of creeks, streams, and areas of poor drainage,” according to a Special Weather statement. “Drivers are urged to slow down and use extra caution to avoid hydroplaning, especially in urban areas where prolonged heavy rain

can quickly lead to flooding.”

Forecasters also warn of cloud-to-ground lightning and wind gusts up to 50 mph.

The advisory expires at 10:15 p.m.
