ROCKINGHAM – FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital – Richmond will hold its 35th Annual Wellness Screening Day Saturday, October 14 from 8 to 11 a.m. at its location at 925 S. Long Drive in Rockingham.

"For 35 years, FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital - Richmond has hosted Wellness Screening Day as a service to our community, attracting around 1,500 people annually,” said John Jackson, regional president of FirstHealth’s Southern Region.

“The physicians, staff and volunteers responsible for Wellness Screening Day are always happy to offer these important services to the residents of Richmond County and surrounding communities,” Jacksoncontinued. “It is one of our goals at FirstHealth to help make our communities as healthy as possible or to identify health problems before they become major medical incidents. We believe Wellness Day helps us reach that goal."

Here are the screenings available at Saturday's event:

Blood Pressure - Free

The measurement of the difference in pressure when your heartbeats and when it relaxes. This screening can diagnosis high blood pressure.

Body Mass Index - Free

The measurement of your height compared to your weight for your age group. This screening indicates your ideal weight.

Bone Density - Free

An ultrasound of the heel bone to show the strength of your bones. This screening indicates your risk for brittle bones.

Pap Smear - $25

A test of a sample of cells to look for infection or cervical cancer in women. Offered by appointment only with pre-registration required.

Vitamin D - $25

 

A blood test that measures the amount of Vitamin D in your body. Vitamin D is needed for bone health.

Wellness Profile - $25

A blood test that gives the results for a variety of blood measurements taken at a yearly exam including: cholesterol, triglycerides, fasting blood sugar, cell count, thyroid, potassium and more. No food or drink for eight hours before this test (you may take required medication with a sip of water).

A1C/Glycosylated Hemoglobin - $15

A blood test that shows your blood sugar levels over the last three months. This test may be used to diagnose diabetes or to check how a diabetic patient is managing their diet and medications.

EKG - $10

 

A test that checks for problems with the electrical activity of your heart.

Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) - $10

A blood test that is used to detect infection or prostate cancer in men.

 

 

 

Tips and other pertinent info:

• Register at front lobby upon arrival.

• Wear loose, non-binding clothes for EKG.

• Must be able to have bare feet for osteoporosis screening.

• For best results, blood work should be done while fasting (nothing to eat or drink for at least 8 hours prior to the test).
