ROCKINGHAM – Perhaps the new perfect movie-viewing combination is popcorn and soda with a scoop of one’s favorite flavor of ice cream.

Twisted Treats, located in Richmond Plaza, welcomed guests to its first family movie night in the courtyard Saturday. For $5, moviegoers were treated to a 7:30 p.m. showing of “Spookley the Square Pumpkin”, and in addition to the movie, each child received one scoop of ice cream, a bag of popcorn, and a drink. Refreshments were available to adults at regular menu prices. Well over 100 people turned out for the event.

Children were excited as they arrived at Twisted Treats. Natalie Richardson, 9, said she wanted to see if she could watch the movie and learn how to make a square pumpkin of her own.  Her little sister enjoyed bringing her own little camp chair to sit in on the courtyard lawn.

E.J. Davis hoped that the movie would be interesting and entertaining, and also said that both the ice cream and popcorn were delicious. Jaleah Leak was looking forward to the movie, as well.

This isn’t the first, or last, Twisted Treats movie night. Shop owners Chris and Ashley Turner will be presenting different movies each Saturday in October. This Saturday, October 21, there will be a showing of “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown,” followed by ‘Curious George, A Halloween Boo Fest” on October 28. In November, as well, the Turners plan to present a showing of ‘Charlie Brown’s Thanksgiving’.

Turner stated that she and her husband enjoy providing families with activities they can do together.

“When we first opened the store, it was our goal to provide a safe place with a good environment for families to come and spend time together,” Turner said. “Providing a family movie is one way to do this. Families won’t have to travel out of town to see a good movie.”

Another event will be offered during the holiday season. Children will be offered the opportunity to meet Santa Clause and make their Christmas wishes known to him. In addition, they will be able to make a Christmas ornament and, as always, eat ice cream.

On Saturday, October 21, from 11:00 a.m. until noon, Twisted Treats will offer a painting activity, as well, with the choice of painting a Frankenstein or a pumpkin canvas. The cost is $15 and includes a canvas and paints, ice cream and a drink. Those interested may call the store to reserve a spot.

Turner shared that Twisted Treats is presenting a new food item on the menu. They will be offering fresh gourmet popcorn, with at least three assorted flavors each week. Flavors offered this week include Buffalo Wild Wing, movie theater, caramel, white chocolate, and chocolate drizzle.
