American Legion thanks veterans at Hamlet nursing homes

HAMLET — Veterans who are residents of two local nursing homes were recognized by one of Richmond County’s veterans organizations Monday afternoon.

Members of Rockingham’s American Legion Post 147 visited Richmond Pines Health Care and Rehabilitation Center and Hamlet House and presented each resident veteran with a certificate of appreciation and a small American flag.

Post Commander Wayne Johnson read each certificate aloud as the veterans were thanked for their service.

The vets were also given small bags of candy and offered New Testament Bibles.
